Accounting Assistant – Construction Focus

About the role

A well‑established general contractor in Tempe, AZ seeks an experienced Accounting Assistant to support day‑to‑day accounting operations. The role involves hands‑on work across accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, tax, job costing and month‑end close.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit customer billings, including AIA progress billings, using platforms such as Textura, Oracle, Procore or GC Pay.
• Maintain customer accounts, post payments, reconcile AR aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Post routine journal entries, perform GL reconciliations and assist with month‑end close activities.
• Assist with sales and use tax preparation, filing and reconciliation.
• Process vendor and subcontractor invoices, track purchase orders and reconcile vendor statements.
• Support job costing, track lien waivers, certificates of insurance and construction compliance documentation.

Required profile

• 4+ years of accounting experience with strong AR, GL, journal entry and month‑end close exposure.
• Experience in construction or project‑based accounting, including AIA billing and job‑cost tracking.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook proficiency.
• Familiarity with accounting platforms such as Textura, Oracle, Procore or GC Pay.
