Accountant – Retail Finance Department

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Accountant to join the Finance Department of an apparel client. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will work in a fast‑paced retail environment handling a variety of general‑ledger and tax responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Post journal entries, allocations, and accruals.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper transaction classification.
• Prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts receivable and accrued expenses.
• Process intercompany invoices and perform related reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed‑asset schedules, calculate depreciation, and reconcile monthly credit‑card accounts.
• Prepare and file multi‑state sales‑tax returns.
• Analyze expense accounts and support the monthly close.
• Identify process‑improvement opportunities and strengthen internal controls.
• Assist with external audits and ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 4‑6 years of accounting experience, preferably in retail or multi‑entity environments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and general‑ledger accounting.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical and able to take ownership of tasks.

Required skills

• SAP (experience a plus).
• Advanced Excel proficiency.
