Accountant II – Hybrid Role in Chicago

About the role

Oil-Dri Corporation of America is seeking a CPA‑qualified Accountant II to support month‑end close, fixed‑asset accounting, cash reconciliation, and financial reporting. This hybrid position offers exposure to corporate accounting, SEC reporting, audit support, and capital project accounting within a publicly traded manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily cash reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Administer fixed‑asset accounting processes, including acquisition, disposition, depreciation, and subledger reconciliation.
• Manage the Capital Expenditure Request process from project setup through closeout.
• Prepare journal entries, support month‑end close activities, and review Accounts Payable batches.
• Prepare monthly account and bank reconciliations, general‑ledger analyses, and SEC filing schedules.
• Maintain petty‑cash controls and provide backup support for AP functions.
• Assist with audit, tax, and budget schedules related to fixed assets and support year‑end audit activities.
• Participate in special projects, process‑improvement initiatives, and other accounting assignments as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA certification.
• Minimum two years of accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Experience with fixed assets, month‑end close, and account reconciliations.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
