2nd Shift CNC Setup Technician

About the role

Amerex, a global leader in fire suppression products, is hiring a 2nd Shift CNC Setup Technician in Trussville. The technician sets up and operates CNC machines to produce precision parts, maintains quality standards and works closely with CNC programmers. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes to produce parts according to specifications
• Read blueprints, CAD models and job orders to determine production requirements and machine settings
• Perform first-article inspections and ongoing quality checks, adjusting machine settings to correct deviations
• Clean, lubricate and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on CNC machines
• Work with CNC programmers to optimize tool paths and machining strategies
• May train operators on machine operations and safety protocols

Required profile

• Typically 3-5 years of experience in CNC setup and operation, with a strong understanding of G-code and machining processes
• Ability to work independently and assist operators as needed
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work under stress in a manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise, dust and heat

Required skills

• Okuma CNC lathes, vertical machining centers (VMCs) and horizontal machining centers (HMCs)
• Okuma OSP controls (OSP-P, OSP-U or equivalent), including offsets, tool data and basic on-machine edits
• Fixturing, work holding, pallet setups, tombstones and multi-part setups
• Tool selection, tool presetting, offset management and feed & speed control
• Precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
