1st Shift Tooling Machinist

About the role

Amerex, a global leader in fire suppression products owned by McWane, Inc., is hiring a 1st Shift Tooling Machinist for its Trussville, Alabama facility. The role involves maintaining safety standards, repairing equipment and machining parts to precise dimensions on tool-shop machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and implement safety standards, assist in equipment repair and machine parts to precision dimensions
• Complete preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery
• Use machinery, grinders, saws, hand tools and other shop equipment to repair equipment
• Monitor equipment and operations to meet safety standards and comply with LOTO and safety, environmental procedures
• Follow diagrams and drawings to produce parts to precision dimensions and adjust functional parts of devices and controls
• Operate tool-shop machinery such as manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses and heat-treating ovens
• Maintain maintenance supplies and perform other duties as assigned

Required profile

• Typically requires technical school or skilled trades accreditation and 4 to 6 years of experience
• Formal technical training or equivalent experience
• Works under minimal supervision, handles complex issues and refers only the most complex ones to higher-level staff
• Willingness to work overtime and schedule changes on short notice; weekend work is rare but can occur

Required skills

• Knowledge of materials properties, machinability and proper applications
• Ability to read and understand instructions, drawings and electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
• Mathematical skills and legible handwriting
• Basic computer skills, including email and computer-based maintenance software
• Accurate and timely paperwork completion
