2027 Summer Mechanical Engineer Intern

About the role

Join Applied Materials' Continuous Improvement program and Ion Source Development Group for a summer 2027 internship in Gloucester, MA. You will gain hands‑on experience in semiconductor equipment engineering while working on prototype parts and component optimization.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine engineering assignments and apply fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
• Design and create new parts for prototype testing and improve existing components to reduce cost and enhance performance.
• Use Applied Materials’ engineering change control system and present findings in a collaborative environment.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, quick learner, and able to work under guidance while showing initiative.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Creo (preferred).
• Familiarity with Ansys (preferred).
