1L Clerk, Summer Clerkship Program

About the role

MassMutual is offering a 10-week summer clerkship for first-year law students (1L Clerk) in its Legal Operations team, based in Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts. The program is paid at $35 per hour and lets you shape your legal internship through meaningful assignments, professional events, company activities and pro bono opportunities, with mentorship and networking with Legal Department leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Work alongside professionals in areas such as corporate, litigation and regulatory practices
• Complete assignments such as artificial intelligence research, attending and supporting depositions, working on venture capital and private equity transactions, and tax research and analysis
• Network with law firms in New England

Required profile

• Enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school as a first-year student for the 2026-2027 academic year
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future
• Ideal: demonstrated involvement in law school and community, leadership roles a plus, interest in in-house or law firm practice, and commitment to advancing inclusion in the legal profession

Required skills

• Strong critical thinking, discretion and analytical skills
• Ability to perform complex legal research and analysis and to advise on results
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
