Youth Services Assistant Counselor (Summer)

About the role

The Youth Services Assistant Counselor supports the International Rescue Committee’s Education and Youth Services Team by helping to coordinate and deliver educational and enrichment activities for refugee and immigrant youth. This short‑term, summer‑focused position provides logistical and administrative assistance while ensuring culturally appropriate engagement with participants and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and delivering summer and after‑school workshops, tutoring sessions, and enrichment outings.
• Support group and individual sessions that explore educational and vocational goals.
• Share information about career pathways and educational opportunities under staff guidance.
• Maintain communication with schools, community colleges, and partner organizations.
• Provide logistical support for financial aid, job shadowing, internships, and other opportunities.
• Record services provided and client progress in case‑management systems.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and staff development activities.
• Help with school enrollment and educational case‑management tasks under supervision.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• CPR/First Aid certification for children or ability to obtain it after hire.
• Experience supporting youth or education programs preferred.
• Experience working with immigrants or refugees is a plus.

Required skills

• Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable accompanying youth to external sites and activities.
