About the role

The Georgia Forestry Commission is seeking motivated individuals to join its elite Wildland Firefighter/Ranger team covering the Lincoln, Taliaferro, and Wilkes counties. This position involves protecting Georgia's forest resources through fire suppression, prevention, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to wildland fire incidents and conduct fire suppression operations.
• Perform fire prevention activities, including public education and hazard reduction.
• Maintain and operate fire‑fighting equipment and vehicles.
• Collaborate with other emergency responders and agency personnel.
• Travel to and work in remote, rugged terrain under challenging conditions.

Required profile

• Class A CDL learner’s permit before hire and ability to obtain a CDL within 12 weeks.
• Pass background investigation, medical evaluation, and physical fitness tests.
• Successfully complete the Moderate Work Capacity Test (2‑mile hike with 25‑lb pack in 30 minutes) and annual fitness assessments.
• Ability to work in high‑adrenaline, emergency‑response environments.
• Willingness to live or relocate within 45 minutes of the Washington, GA unit.
