Environmental Scientist – Permitting, NEPA & Infrastructure

About the role

InterAgency, Inc. is seeking a motivated Mid‑Level Environmental Scientist to support major resiliency and infrastructure projects across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The role involves collaborating on planning, design, permitting and construction phases to ensure environmental compliance and protect natural resources.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage federal, state, and local environmental permit applications, coordinating agency reviews and approvals.
• Assist in drafting NEPA documentation and related environmental analyses.
• Advise clients on permitting strategies and regulatory requirements through desktop assessments and permit matrices.
• Work with project managers to align technical deliverables with project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
• Develop technical proposals, client deliverables, Environmental Management Plans, and compliance documentation.
• Support erosion and sediment control (ESC) and stormwater management (SWM) program administration.
• Mentor junior staff by providing technical guidance and project collaboration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
• 3–7 years of environmental consulting experience.
• Proven experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of the Clean Water Act and related statutes, including §7 of the Endangered Species Act and §106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
