Water Quality Technician – 40 hrs/week, Mon‑Fri

About the role

The City of Oviedo is seeking a Water Quality Technician to perform field and technical duties that ensure the safety and compliance of its potable water distribution system. This full‑time, non‑exempt position works Monday through Friday under the supervision of the Lead Water Plant Operator and Utilities Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct flushing, hydrant maintenance, and valve exercising across the water network.
• Collect water samples, perform residual checks for monochloramine, nitrification, and total chlorine, and analyze results to determine maintenance actions.
• Prepare and maintain daily activity files, system profiles, and monthly reports for the FDEP log book.
• Maintain flushing schedules, paint hydrants, number valves, and perform auto‑flusher meter reads.
• Perform minor repairs on valves and hydrants, report larger issues, and keep inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Interact with customers to address water‑quality concerns and serve as essential personnel during emergencies.

Required profile

• Works under immediate to general supervision and reports directly to the Lead Water Plant Operator.
• Communicates effectively with the public and internal teams.
• Available to serve as essential personnel during natural or man‑made disasters.

Required skills

• Water quality testing and sample analysis (monochloramine, nitrification, total chlorine).
• Flushing operations and use of automatic flushing equipment.
• Hydrant maintenance, painting, and valve exercising.
• Use of hand and power tools such as electric wrenches, valve exercisers, and portable flushing diffusers.
• Inventory management of supplies and equipment.
• Auto‑flusher meter reading and field investigations.
• Minor valve and hydrant repair techniques.
