VP of Finance – Controller

About the role

The VP of Finance – Controller provides strategic financial leadership for Habitat for Humanity, overseeing all financial operations, reporting, and compliance. Reporting to the CFO, this senior role partners with senior leadership to deliver financial insights that guide organizational decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the Finance Department, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure GAAP and nonprofit compliance.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Develop annual budgets and multi‑year forecasts in collaboration with department leaders.
• Monitor budget performance, conduct variance analysis, and recommend actions to leadership.
• Manage cash flow, cash projections, and liquidity.
• Oversee the general ledger, accruals, reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries.
• Lead the annual financial audit and prepare required schedules and reports.
• Manage preparation of IRS Form 990, 1099s, and other tax filings.
• Ensure grant reporting and compliance across the organization.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in nonprofit financial leadership.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
• Proven ability to supervise finance teams and drive performance.
• Experience leading audits and managing tax compliance.
