Volunteer – Patient Support at UAMS

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks compassionate volunteers to enhance the experience of patients and their families during their time on campus. Volunteers provide both direct and indirect support, helping create a welcoming and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors, offering friendly assistance and information.
• Provide companionship, emotional support, and comfort to patients.
• Assist with wayfinding, escorting patients to appointments, and transporting equipment or wheelchairs.
• Support clinical and administrative staff with non‑clinical tasks as needed.
• Participate in special events and programs that improve patient morale.

Required profile

• Extroverted, mature, and positive attitude.
• Strong service orientation with genuine compassion for patients and visitors.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, or push a wheelchair for extended periods.
• Clear communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus.
• Initiative, flexibility, and willingness to assume varied duties.
