About the role
The International Rescue Committee seeks a dedicated Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) Instructor to deliver industry‑focused English instruction to refugee adults in Louisville. You will help clients acquire workplace language skills essential for gaining, retaining, and advancing in employment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and teach full‑time VESL classes targeting vocational English acquisition.
- Develop lesson plans that provide real‑life language skills for community participation.
- Collaborate with the Economic Empowerment Manager to enroll, track, and report client participation.
- Maintain case files documenting client activities, outcomes, and attendance.
- Provide basic computer skills training, emphasizing Microsoft Office and VESL instruction.
- Administer initial English intake exams and regular assessments to monitor progress.
- Participate in IRC Communities of Practice, staff meetings, and networking opportunities.
Required profile
- Undergraduate degree in Adult Education or related field preferred.
- TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA certification (required).
- Proven experience teaching ESL/EFL or adult education.
- Experience working with refugee, immigrant, or culturally diverse adult learners strongly preferred.
- Curriculum development experience is a plus.
