Vice President, Government Relations and Public Policy

About the role

BusPatrol is seeking a senior policy leader to serve as Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy. The role will design and execute complex political strategies, lead legislative enablement, and manage a high‑functioning GR team to protect and expand automated school‑bus safety solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of public policy and government relations strategies, focusing on offensive and defensive legislation for automated school‑bus stop‑arm enforcement and related safety initiatives.
• Manage an internal GR team and a network of external lobbyists and outside counsel, ensuring alignment with the company’s political objectives.
• Coordinate cross‑functional tactics with Growth, Legal, and Communications teams for state‑by‑state policy initiatives and market readiness.
• Engage with municipalities, school districts, and partners to integrate technology policies and promote violator‑funded safety programs.

Required profile

• 10+ years of leadership experience, including state‑level legislative experience and a proven record of lobbying multi‑state contentious legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage policy and GR functions at enterprise scale in complex political environments.
• Experience supervising remote teams and contract lobbyists, with strong project‑management and staff‑management skills.
• Excellent communication, research, and organizational abilities, with a high degree of accuracy in drafting legislation and policy memos.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using CRM software.
• Familiarity with legislative tracking software.
