Utility Technician – Infrastructure

About the role

Join the Performance Materials team in Wyandotte, Michigan as a Utility Technician. You will support critical site services, ensuring safety, reliability, and minimal downtime across multiple facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor firewater, outfall, sanitary sewer, construction, and groundwater systems.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor preventive maintenance on utility support systems.
• Issue and manage permits for safework, isolation, hot work, and confined‑space activities.
• Coordinate excavations, water shipments, and assist contractors with underground pipe repairs.
• Conduct monthly utility meter reads, escort DTE personnel, and consolidate scrap metal.
• Support compressed air, river water, steam, and nitrogen utilities during upsets.
• Train for and perform site crane lifts as needed.
• Respond to on‑call utility issues and monitor basic process controls (valves, flow, pressure/vacuum, level, pumps).

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work outdoors in high‑noise or high‑temperature environments while wearing PPE.
• Physical capability to stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs and lift up to 50 lb.
• Willingness to work 8‑hour shifts and be on call for utility upsets.

Required skills

• Utility system operation (firewater, outfall, sanitary sewer, groundwater).
• Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of support equipment.
• Permit issuance and management for safework, isolation, hot work, confined space.
• Basic process control knowledge (control valves, flow, pressure/vacuum, level, pumps).
• Crane operation training.
• Meter reading and water shipment coordination.
• Knowledge of compressed air, steam, and nitrogen utilities.
