Instrument & Electrical Technician Apprentice

About the role

BASF is looking for motivated individuals to join its Wyandotte, MI production facility as Instrument & Electrical Technician Apprentices. Starting around August 2026, you will combine on‑the‑job training with an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology at Henry Ford Community College, with all tuition and books paid by BASF.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and document plant instrumentation such as flow, level, pressure and temperature transmitters, measuring elements, control valves, automated valves and motor‑operated valves (MOVs).
• Gain basic knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Work safely on equipment up to 480 VAC and in classified hazardous areas using intrinsically safe tools.
• Track and update daily tasks in the SAP maintenance management system.
• Read and update electrical and instrument documentation, including schematics, specifications, P&IDs and one‑line diagrams.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work in a plant environment, lift 50 lb, and perform 8‑hour fixed day shifts (weekends/holidays possible).
• Willingness to enroll in a degree program and work at heights, on metal walkways, stairs, and in varying indoor/outdoor weather conditions.

Required skills

• Experience with transmitters (flow, level, pressure, temperature).
• Knowledge of measuring elements, control valves, automated valves and MOVs.
• Basic understanding of DCS and PLCs.
• Proficiency with SAP maintenance management.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs and one‑line diagrams.
• Comfort working with 480 VAC equipment.
