Underwriting Specialist / Executive Underwriter – Umbrella Excess Casualty

About the role

Zurich is looking for an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter to join the National Accounts Large Property Underwriting team in Chicago. The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week in the office/market to build relationships with brokers and agents.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Umbrella Excess Casualty business within delegated authority levels.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities and manage a qualified list of targets 90‑120 days before effective dates.
• Negotiate terms and conditions, close deals, and cross‑sell additional lines of business.
• Maintain accurate records in required systems and serve as the primary contact for assigned accounts.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; 3+ years underwriting/market‑facing experience for Specialist or 5+ years for Executive level.
• Knowledge of P&C lines, legal and regulatory guidelines, and time‑sensitive quoting.
• Strong relationship‑building abilities with brokers, agents, and clients.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Use of underwriting tools for pricing and risk assessment.
