Executive Underwriter / AVP Underwriting Director – Middle Market

About the role

Zurich North America is expanding its Middle Market team in Chicago. The role can be filled at either Executive Underwriter or AVP Underwriting Director level, focusing on Property & Casualty insurance solutions for middle‑market customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers across all industries.
• Leverage underwriting expertise to assess risk, evaluate exposure, price policies, and manage a profitable book of new and renewal business.
• Collaborate with claims, finance, risk engineering, actuarial, and technical underwriting teams.
• Use technical underwriting, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant years of underwriting, market‑facing, or claims support experience (see specific level requirements).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and required experience may also qualify.
• Ability to work under time constraints for quotes and in a team environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office proficiency.
