Ultrasound Technician (PRN)

About the role

RKV Medical Center is hiring a part-time Ultrasound Technician to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations using specialized imaging equipment, producing high-quality images for physician interpretation. The role requires formal education in diagnostic medical sonography, certification by a recognized accrediting body, and the ability to provide safe, accurate and compassionate patient care in line with clinical protocols and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as ordered by a physician, following established protocols and standards of practice
• Prepare patients by explaining exams, positioning them correctly and ensuring their comfort and safety
• Acquire and evaluate ultrasound images for technical quality and completeness, and recognize normal and abnormal anatomy
• Communicate findings that require immediate attention per protocol and maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA
• Operate, adjust and maintain ultrasound equipment, carry out routine quality control checks and report malfunctions or safety concerns
• Follow infection prevention, radiation safety (where applicable) and workplace safety guidelines
• Document procedures, patient information and results in the electronic medical record and communicate with radiologists, physicians and nurses
• Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination and patient throughput
• Maintain licensure, certifications and continuing education, and take part in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings

Required profile

• Basic training in ultrasound and graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
• 3-5 years of clinical training or experience performing diagnostic ultrasound (student clinical hours acceptable for entry-level roles)
• Current certification in ARDMS or ARRT
• Willingness to travel 0-25%
