Tool & Die Maker – Hands‑On Fabrication & Maintenance

About the role

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for the hands‑on fabrication, maintenance, and repair of dies, jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, and gauges used in production. Working from blueprints and engineering specifications, the role combines independent machining expertise with close collaboration with Production Setup personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, reconstruct, and repair tools and dies, including cleaning, checking, and regrinding components such as punches, inserts, and die rails.
• Build new dies and tools ranging from basic to highly complex, working alone or with assistants to meet customer and engineering specifications.
• Identify and report blueprint errors, document maintenance activities, and keep spare‑part inventories stocked.
• Collaborate with Production Setup to assist sampling jobs, troubleshoot issues, and train other Tool & Die employees.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Relevant machine‑setup or trade experience (6 months to 8 years) and ability to read blueprints.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to apply mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.
• Proficiency measuring parts with calipers, micrometers, and job‑specific gauges.

Required skills

• Precision grinding of steel and carbide to .0002 in tolerance.
• Blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Use of measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Navigation of Plex ERP system.
• Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) software.
• Knowledge of heat‑treating procedures and furnace operation.
