Temporary Medical Assistant – Orthopedics

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Orthopedics is seeking a full‑time temporary Medical Assistant to support patient care in its orthopedic clinics. This PRN position involves direct interaction with patients, assisting physicians and nurses, and ensuring a smooth clinical workflow.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and patient information for medical records.
• Administer injections, perform routine laboratory tests, and assist with dressing changes and leg wraps.
• Prepare treatment rooms and supply instruments for examinations.
• Assist physicians during physical examinations by handing instruments and materials.
• Provide patients with basic instructions about procedures.
• Clean and sterilize medical instruments following sterile technique.
• Schedule patients for tests and complete laboratory requisition forms.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and records.
• Order, stock, and inventory supplies; escort patients to various hospital locations.
• Follow university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
• Approved MA certifications (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA) as applicable.
• Commitment to adhere to hospital policies; no medication administration in this role.
