Technical/Engineering Documentation Writer – AI/ML

About the role

We are looking for a Technical/Engineering Documentation Writer to support AI/ML model releases at Compose.ly. The role is a fractional, remote engagement of roughly 20 hours per month, with work concentrated around release cycles. The ideal candidate blends deep engineering knowledge with strong technical writing ability and can work independently with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine public‑facing technical documentation for AI/model releases.
• Consolidate contributions from multiple engineers into a clear, consistent narrative and voice.
• Sanity‑check documentation for technical accuracy, clarity, completeness, and audience understanding.
• Establish frameworks, standards, and repeatable processes for technical release documentation.
• Translate highly technical engineering material into polished documentation for external technical audiences, working quickly around rolling release timelines.

Required profile

• Deep technical/engineering expertise, preferably with experience in a frontier lab or similar environment.
• Proven track record creating public‑facing documentation for complex engineering projects, especially AI/ML or open‑source systems.
• Ability to collaborate directly with highly technical engineering teams and synthesize fragmented inputs into accurate documentation.
• Comfortable working remotely with a flexible, block‑hour schedule and minimal hand‑holding.
