Backend Engineer (Remote Opportunity)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a 100% remote team supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. The role focuses on designing, developing and maintaining secure, scalable backend services, RESTful APIs and enterprise integration solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, RESTful APIs and enterprise integration components for mission‑critical healthcare applications.
• Implement business logic, service orchestration, data‑access layers and secure service‑to‑service communication.
• Build scalable, maintainable and secure server‑side solutions following approved architectures and secure coding practices.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, architects, QA engineers, DevSecOps teams and product stakeholders to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Participate in technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting, release activities and production support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or equivalent experience with at least 5 years of backend software engineering.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful services and API development.
• Proficiency in SQL, relational databases and backend data‑processing patterns.
• Experience with Git‑based version control, CI/CD workflows and Agile delivery environments.
