Systems Engineer – Infrastructure & Research Computing

About the role

Aquatic Capital Management is seeking a senior Systems Engineer to join its Infrastructure team. You will own and evolve the compute platform that powers quantitative research and production trading, spanning on‑premise HPC clusters, hybrid cloud resources, GPU workloads, and high‑performance storage.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve Slurm and Ray cluster infrastructure across on‑premise and GCP environments, supporting research and trading workloads.
• Drive architectural improvements to capacity, scheduling efficiency, and throughput, including GPU computation.
• Design and maintain connectivity and automation between on‑premise and cloud environments.
• Evaluate and implement emerging compute paradigms as research needs evolve.
• Own high‑performance storage systems (VAST, NFS, S3‑compatible) ensuring fast, reliable data access.
• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks at the intersection of storage, network, and compute.
• Design and maintain provisioning systems for complex compute resources and datacenter onboarding.
• Own and improve CI/CD infrastructure (GitHub Actions) and the broader development toolchain.
• Provide technical leadership, set architectural vision, and mentor early‑career engineers.
• Diagnose and resolve the most obscure system issues.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or a closely related discipline.
• Deep Unix/Linux expertise across multiple distributions.
• Extensive experience with high‑performance computing, Slurm, Ray, and GPU workloads.
• Proven experience designing hybrid on‑premise and cloud (GCP, AWS) environments.
• Strong background in high‑performance storage technologies (NFS, S3‑compatible, VAST).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and automation frameworks.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship abilities.
