Surface Operator

About the role

The Surface Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently loading coal onto trucks and rail cars at the Sufco Mine. The role ensures optimal use of equipment and resources to deliver high‑quality product to customers while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile equipment on uneven surfaces, including loaders, hoists, and forklifts.
• Perform frequent overhead work on belt lines and work inside confined chute areas.
• Load, weigh, and document coal transport vehicles of varying sizes.
• Unload freight deliveries using forklifts and other heavy‑equipment.
• Maintain routine mechanical upkeep of machines and equipment.
• Support the Sufco Behaviour‑Based Safety (BBS) process and comply with company policies and federal regulations.
• Collaborate professionally with trucking companies, drivers, and site personnel.

Required profile

• Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred with a safe driving record.
• Surface Foreman Certification or ability to obtain it promptly.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Physical stamina for continuous standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb and working in inclement, noisy, dirty, and wet environments.
• Excellent hand‑eye coordination, hearing, eyesight and spatial perception.
