Substitute Teacher – Head Start (Charleston HS)

About the role

DAEOC is seeking substitute staff for its Head Start/Early Head Start centers at Charleston High School. The substitute will work cooperatively with classroom staff, supporting daily operations and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for children.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out duties in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and program policies.
• Assist classroom staff and actively engage in classroom operations.
• Conduct assessments and screenings as directed.
• Ensure no child is left alone and use appropriate voice tone with children, families, and staff.
• Perform data entry and other administrative tasks as needed.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with children and families.
• Promote Head Start/Early Head Start goals and serve as an advocate for participants.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, families, and staff.
• Report any suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with law.
• Provide parents and the public with literature about Head Start and community resources.

Required profile

• Valid Missouri driver’s license.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Ability to work on an as‑needed, substitute basis.
• Commitment to child safety, confidentiality, and reporting requirements.
• Positive attitude, teamwork orientation, and professional demeanor.
