Substation Engineering Consultant – High Voltage Projects

About the role

The Substation Engineering Consultant will lead multidisciplinary project teams delivering design, modification, and analysis of high‑voltage substations. This hybrid position combines on‑site collaboration three days a week with two remote days, supporting both new builds and upgrades for utility clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals throughout project phases.
• Coordinate detailed electrical design with civil, structural and transmission‑line stakeholders.
• Ensure projects meet quality, schedule and budget targets while tracking out‑of‑scope work.
• Prepare technical reports, studies and client presentations in Sargent & Lundy formats.
• Review calculations, drawings, specifications and procurement documents produced by others.
• Serve as primary liaison to clients, providing project and account support.
• Support business‑development activities and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 10+ years of experience in design engineering or management of high‑voltage utility projects.
• Proven project‑management experience with EPC, Owner’s Engineer or joint‑venture contracts.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, write, speak).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• High‑voltage substation design and analysis.
• Project management and cost‑control techniques.
• Proposal writing and scope development.
• EPC contract execution and coordination.
