Store Custodian

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Custodian for its store in Urbandale. The role is responsible for the total cleanliness and appearance of the store inside and out, keeping equipment maintained and ensuring a positive environment for customers and employees. It is an hourly position in the General department.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers promptly and kindly, learning their names and making interactions positive
• Maintain store cleanliness: sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, power washing, scrubbing, dusting, carpet shampooing and sanitizing
• Change ceiling lights and install or replace towel, paper and soap dispensers as needed
• Monitor plumbing, fixtures, coolers and freezers and report issues to supervisors
• Empty garbage and crush cardboard during the shift, unclog drains and perform routine equipment maintenance
• Clean cooling systems and filters, order cleaning products and audit invoices where applicable
• Run quarterly inventory on products used for cost and quantity
• Do price checks, return carts from the parking lot and sack for customers as needed
• Help in other store areas, take on special projects and follow all store policies and guidelines

Required profile

• No education or experience required; training is provided
• Able to solve practical problems and follow instructions in varied situations
• Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers accurately
• Team player who works well with others to keep the store clean and running
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching and bending; exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dampness, dirt and cleaning chemicals
