Stationary Engineer

About the role

The Stationary Engineer will ensure the safe, reliable operation of critical utility systems at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus. This includes high‑pressure steam, HVAC, emergency power, and fire protection equipment supporting patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, operate, and maintain high‑pressure steam powerhouse, HVAC systems, emergency generators, and fire protection equipment.
• Monitor and log performance of central utility plant equipment, identify trends, and respond to emergency calls.
• Test and maintain emergency generators, transfer equipment, and fire protection systems.
• Perform inspections of bulk oxygen tanks, chillers, and other utility systems across Cleveland Clinic facilities as needed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current Ohio Third‑Class Stationary Engineer License (or equivalent with transfer/approval within 12 months).
• Knowledge of steam distribution, condensate, large chiller, water distribution, cooling towers, and air handling systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Physical ability to lift 100 lb, work stationary or mobile for extended periods, and climb ladders.
