Staff Python Engineer (Modeling & Simulation)

About the role

Code Metal is building a next‑generation wargaming and decision‑support platform for the Department of War. As a Staff Python Engineer you will create the Python services, pipelines, and tooling that power core simulation runs, integrate with AI/ML models, and deliver results to analysts and government stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs that orchestrate mission‑ and campaign‑level simulation runs and expose results.
• Build scenario‑generation, operational planning, and Monte‑Carlo sensitivity‑analysis workflows for the wargaming platform.
• Develop distributed, cloud‑scale infrastructure that runs simulations across workstations, on‑premises, and cloud compute while preserving reproducibility.
• Create data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines that turn raw simulation output into decision‑ready insight.
• Implement scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and containerized services linking Python tooling to the simulation runtime.
• Gather requirements from government stakeholders and domain experts, translating them into clear software designs.
• Apply strong SDLC practices: code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, and build systems.

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional experience developing enterprise‑level Python applications.
• Proven ability to gather requirements from stakeholders and produce solid software designs.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and containerized application development.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning tools and frameworks.
• Expertise building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Experience with strong SDLC practices including code review, testing, CI, and release management.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
