Staff Perfusionist – Full‑time with On‑Call Rotation

About the role

The Staff Perfusionist provides adult cardiopulmonary bypass, ventricular assist support, intra‑aortic balloon pump support, and ECMO services at Ochsner's main campus hospital in New Orleans. The position includes on‑call rotation covering nights, weekends and holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, LVAD insertion and monitoring, and intra‑aortic balloon pump procedures.
• Perform auto‑transfusion, physiological monitoring, hemofiltration, acute dialysis, and operate blood analyzers.
• Maintain departmental compliance, train new staff, and educate perfusion students.
• Adapt communication and procedural approach to diverse patient populations.

Required profile

• Completion of a formal training program in Extracorporeal Technology.
• Certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion; Louisiana perfusion license or ability to obtain one.
• Effective verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work calmly under pressure.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules and respond to call‑backs within 45 minutes.

• Cardiopulmonary bypass and other mechanical circulatory support techniques.
• Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) operation.
• LVAD (HeartMate 2/3, TandemHeart, Impella) insertion and monitoring.
• Intra‑aortic balloon pump management.
• Hemofiltration and acute dialysis procedures.
• Use of blood analyzers and Windows‑style computer applications for data entry.
