Staff Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Payabli is building a next‑generation payments infrastructure for vertical SaaS companies. The company is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to define the technical direction of its ML portfolio, improve existing risk models, and create new models that make payments smarter and more efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical roadmap for the model portfolio, enhancing current transaction and merchant risk models while launching new models across the payments lifecycle.
• Establish core ML foundations such as experimentation workflows, model monitoring, drift detection, performance benchmarking, and incident response.
• Translate ambiguous payments challenges into well‑scoped modeling problems and express model impact in business terms (e.g., loss rates, approval rates, dispute rates).
• Mentor and influence other ML engineers, raising the overall technical bar of the team.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and risk operations to identify high‑leverage opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and shipping production‑grade machine‑learning models.
• Strong understanding of model evaluation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with product, engineering, and risk teams.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and driving technical standards.
