Staff Design Engineer

About the role

Moog is seeking a Staff Design Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership across the full product lifecycle for its Space and Defense Group in Buffalo, NY. The role involves guiding complex engineering efforts for hypersonic vehicle systems and ensuring compliance with safety, reliability and performance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and decision‑making throughout concept, development, integration, test and production phases.
• Conduct trade studies, support design reviews, and provide Basis of Estimates for program tasks.
• Mentor and guide a team of engineers, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
• Coordinate technical documentation, customer communications and ensure alignment with program schedules and budgets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems, Software Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of design experience, preferably with actuators and controllers, in aerospace or defense.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; current Secret or Top‑Secret clearance highly preferred.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% to customer sites.

Required skills

• Mechanical and electrical design of actuators and control systems.
• Experience with Agile development processes.
• Technical trade‑study analysis and BOE preparation.
• Strong knowledge of product lifecycle management from concept to production.
