Sr. Vehicle Modeling Engineer, Applied AI Systems

About the role

The Systems Design Reliability Engineering (SDRE) team at Rivian VW Group is seeking a senior engineer to lead AI‑assisted, model‑driven systems engineering for electric vehicles. You will create and operate Digital Twin infrastructure that supports vehicle controls, infotainment, communications, and access, bridging AI tooling with physical system modeling.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain multi‑fidelity plant models (FMU‑packaged) for powertrain, dynamics, thermal, and body subsystems using Python, OpenModelica, Julia, or Simulink.
• Build FMI‑based co‑simulation environments to run model‑to‑code validation, SIL regression tests, and field issue replay.
• Correlate simulation models with real‑world vehicle, dyno, lab rig, and fleet data.
• Design LLM pipelines for automated requirement drafting, test script generation, coverage analysis, and root‑cause analysis.
• Integrate semantic search and retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) over engineering artifacts using LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent.
• Embed AI assistants into GitLab and test management systems via APIs, plugins, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform traditional systems engineering tasks such as authoring requirements, conducting analyses, design reviews, and STPA.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in vehicle modeling, digital twins, or related simulation domains.
• Proven ability to develop and operate AI‑enabled engineering toolchains.
• Strong analytical mindset with hands‑on experience in systems engineering processes.
