Sr. Body Controls Engineer - Mechanism

About the role

We are looking for a senior Body Controls Engineer to join our software development team in Irvine. You will design and integrate control systems for vehicle mechatronics such as closures, lighting, seating, and accessories, helping shape the next generation of electric vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and develop control algorithms using PID, feed‑forward, motion profiling and signal filtering.
• Translate requirements into high‑level functional specifications and control solutions.
• Create and execute test cases in Unit, SIL and HIL environments.
• Perform vehicle software testing, feature tuning and calibration.
• Support FMEA and ISO 26262 compliance activities.
• Collaborate on simulation models for analysis, optimization and troubleshooting.
• Develop diagnostic interfaces and troubleshoot cross‑domain functional issues.
• Prioritize and escalate issues based on impact and program goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 3+ years of experience with automotive or robotic control systems, focusing on mechatronics.
• Strong knowledge of control theory, compensator design and PID tuning.
• Familiarity with hardware components such as DC motors, latches, limit switches, pinch strips, resistance ladders, Hall sensors and current sensors.
• Experience with ISO 26262 safety standards and FMEA processes.

Required skills

• PID control, feed‑forward techniques, motion profiling, signal filtering.
• Programming in C, C++ and Python.
• Requirements management tools (JAMA, Cameo).
• Task management tools (JIRA).
• Source control systems (Git).
