About the role

Law student interns in the Family & Children Unit will work directly with clients from day one, gaining hands‑on experience in family law matters such as dissolution of marriage, parental responsibility allocation, and civil protection orders.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct client interviews, case investigations, and draft letters, motions, pleadings, and notices.
  • Prepare for hearings, conduct legal research, write memoranda and briefs, and assist with case management.
  • Represent clients in court hearings when authorized under Colorado’s Law Student Practice Act.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, client meetings, mediations, and settlement conferences.

Required profile

  • Strong commitment to legal issues affecting low‑income individuals.
  • Interest in research, writing, and interviewing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

  • Legal research and writing.
  • Drafting of pleadings and motions.

What we offer

  • Unpaid position with eligibility for work‑study funds or course credit.
  • Full‑ or part‑time schedule; must work at least two full days per week.
