Specialty Assistant Store Manager (Training)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Specialty Assistant Store Manager in Training (SASM-IT) for its Watertown store. This is a hands-on training program of up to 6 weeks, with mentorship and leadership development, that prepares candidates for the Assistant Store Manager role and gives them insight into the Specialty and Pro departments. The trainee works alongside the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers, Home Services and Pro business partners to develop strategies that improve sales, customer service and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in a structured training program covering retail store management, operations, customer service, sales and profitability, and company policies and procedures.
• Support staffing and scheduling, resolve stock shortages, coach associates on selling behavior, handle customer issues and support service needs for installed sales and special orders.
• Learn the performance management process, including reviewing associate performance and applying the disciplinary process when needed.
• Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead the GET culture and ensure customer concerns are resolved promptly.
• Plan merchandise placement, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Perform opening, closing and other whole-store focus tasks, follow SOPs including safety compliance, and help mitigate shrink.
• Ensure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
• At least 3 years of work experience, with 1+ year of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams; action oriented, customer focused and resourceful.
• Must be able to stand or walk continuously and lift or carry moderate-weight items (8-20 pounds); occasional overnight travel under 5% of the time.

What we offer

• Pay range of $65,000 to $75,000 for residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington.
