Special Projects Manager – Classification

About the role

The Special Projects Manager/Classification will support the DOE Portsmouth Site by leading classification and records management initiatives. This full‑time position reports to the IDIQ Manager and works closely with project leadership to ensure timely, secure, and compliant handling of sensitive information.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee digitization of mixed‑media records and manage the transition from paper to electronic formats while maintaining security and NARA requirements.
• Provide classification guidance, review technical documents for public release, and train authorized classification personnel.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, manage project schedules, budgets, and prepare progress reports for customers and management.
• Ensure compliance with DOE Orders and regulatory requirements for handling classified and sensitive records.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• High school diploma plus five years of classification experience at DOE, DoD, or NRC facilities (or equivalent degree plus experience).
• Certified Derivative Declassifier (or able to obtain within 6 months) and holds relevant classification authority certificates.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of DOE Orders (e.g., 243.1C, 206.1, 475.2B) and 41 CFR 109‑45.09‑52 requirements.
• Ability to read, interpret, and produce technical documents and reports.
