Special Education Teacher (SPED NT‑4) – Augusta RYDC

About the role

We are seeking a Special Education Teacher (SPED NT‑4) to join the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) under the Department of Juvenile Justice. The teacher will develop and deliver lesson plans for students in a secure, correctional‑education environment, fostering academic growth and personal development.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with state standards.
• Implement differentiated instruction using appropriate technology and resources.
• Manage classroom behavior, enforce rules, and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Assess student progress, provide feedback, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and required reports.
• Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
• Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student needs and progress.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
• Eligibility to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate (or hold a provisional certificate).
• Preference for candidates with SRT‑4 or higher in science (grades 4‑8 or 6‑12).
• Experience with at‑risk youth or youth facilities is a plus.
