Special Education Teacher – Intensive SEL Program

About the role

The Special Education Teacher will lead an Intensive Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) program for students with significant social‑emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. This role blends individualized academic instruction with therapeutic‑informed practices to create a highly structured, supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt curriculum to meet each student’s unique needs.
• Provide direct instruction across subjects, using tailored teaching methods and behavioral strategies.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, mental‑health professionals, and support staff to ensure inclusive classroom practices.
• Monitor student progress, adjust instructional approaches, and participate in regular staffing and assessment meetings.
• Foster a positive, respectful classroom atmosphere that promotes social‑emotional growth and engage regularly with parents/guardians.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred) and current Oregon teaching license with Special Education endorsement.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs and working with children who exhibit behavioral and emotional disorders.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, demonstrated through continuous professional development.
• Proficiency with computer and internet‑based applications, strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
