Special Education Teacher (Grades 7-12)

About the role

The Board of Education Department of Human Resources in Buffalo seeks a qualified Special Education Teacher for grades 7‑12. The role involves planning, delivering, and evaluating instructional programs that meet the diverse learning needs of students while supporting their academic and extracurricular development.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that promote active learning.
• Develop lesson plans and establish clear objectives for each learning activity.
• Provide a variety of learning materials and resources, including relevant technology.
• Assess, grade, and give feedback on student work, monitoring individual progress.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and prepare required reports.
• Manage classroom behavior, enforce school policies, and create a positive learning environment.
• Participate in school, district, and professional development meetings.

Required profile

• New York State or Buffalo certification in Special Education (K‑12 or 7‑12).
• Dual certification in Math, ELA, Science, or Social Studies (7‑12).
• Proof of certifications must be attached to the application.
• Preference given to candidates residing in the City of Buffalo.
