Special Education Paraprofessional – Support Students with Disabilities

About the role

The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direction of the Director of Special Education to reinforce instruction and support students with identified disabilities. The role involves collaborating with credentialed staff to help students meet academic and behavioral goals across various school settings.

Key responsibilities

• Reinforce educational, social and behavioral instruction for individual students or small groups as directed by certified staff.
• Assist with preparation of instructional materials and exercises in accordance with each student’s IEP.
• Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans and collect data on student progress.
• Support students in using instructional technology, assistive technology, and augmentative communication devices.
• Accompany students in all school settings, including general education classrooms.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in childcare, psychology or education preferred.
• Minimum six months experience working or volunteering with children with disabilities.
• Successful completion of fingerprint clearance, TB test and required trainings (CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment).

Required skills

• Proficiency with instructional technology devices and related software.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to operate office equipment.
