Software Engineering Intern – Vehicle Controls

About the role

This internship is part of a joint venture between Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, focused on developing software‑defined vehicle controls. Interns will join one of several Vehicle Controls teams and work on embedded software or control algorithms for domains such as propulsion, battery management, thermal systems, body controls, and functional safety.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and validate embedded software for battery management, charging, or energy distribution systems.
• Develop control software for thermal, HVAC, body, or lighting systems.
• Contribute to vehicle dynamics or propulsion control algorithms.
• Support functional safety analysis and safety‑critical software requirements.
• Build and run automated tests in Unit, Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL), and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments.
• Assist with systems engineering tasks related to vehicle controls.

Required profile

• Available for a full‑time commitment from January 11, 2027 to August 13, 2027.
• Enrolled in a relevant engineering or computer science program.
• Strong interest in automotive software and embedded systems.
