Shop Tech I - Rental Equipment Maintenance

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Shop Tech I in Seattle, WA, working Monday to Friday. The role covers basic repairs, preventive maintenance, pre-delivery inspections and deployment of machines in the rental fleet, including earth-moving, aerial, landscaping and material handling equipment. It reports to the Rental Regional Manager and has no direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Document work performed on tablets, complete work orders capturing parts usage and labor, and run parts inventory counts (about 10%)
• Check GPS units on equipment, make sure they are activated and checking in, and troubleshoot with the IT team as needed; rescue equipment from job sites (about 10%)
• Perform aerial lift inspections using the required checklist and clean equipment and trailers (about 20%)
• Carry out preventive maintenance on equipment and pre-delivery inspections on equipment and trailers before sending them to stores (about 30%)
• Troubleshoot and repair small engines (fuel, oil and air filtration, ignition systems), change wheels, tracks and tires, and maintain and repair trailers (about 30%)
• Follow shop safety protocols, including proper storage of supplies and fuel, disposal of waste oils and fluids, and safe forklift operation (about 10%)

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• High school diploma or GED
• Typically 3 years of work experience preferred
• Typically requires overnight travel of less than 10% of the time
• Must be able to stand, walk and regularly lift or carry material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds)
• Exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise and fumes
