Sensors Team Lead

About the role

Waabi is seeking a Sensors Team Lead to define and execute the technical strategy for its autonomous vehicle sensor suite. You will shape the roadmap across multiple generations of the Waabi Driver and work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure high‑quality sensor data for safe autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Define the overall sensor strategy and roadmap, aligning it with the development of the Waabi Driver across different verticals.
• Maintain strategic relationships with sensor vendors and stay current on emerging Lidar, Radar, and Camera technologies.
• Lead comprehensive testing and evaluation of new sensor samples using test fixtures and the Sensor Mule vehicle, and develop supporting tooling.
• Develop and maintain Waabi sensor requirements in partnership with Systems and Hardware teams.
• Oversee the sensor integration pipeline, ensuring raw data is correctly ingested and configured for optimal resolution, frame rate, and field of view.
• Implement monitoring systems for data integrity, latency, and environmental interference, and define standards for a “clean sensor.”
• Collaborate with the Simulation team to create accurate sensor models and validate them through testing.
• Provide technical leadership to the sensor team, fostering cohesion and alignment with the broader technical strategy.

Required profile

• 10+ years of hands‑on experience with Lidar, Radar, and Camera systems, preferably in autonomous vehicles or robotics.
• 5+ years in a leadership role managing technical teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Optical, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven ability to drive technical strategy, develop sensor requirements, and manage vendor relationships.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
