Senior Traffic Engineer

About the role

HDR is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead the design and implementation of traffic‑related infrastructure across large‑scale transportation projects. You will work within the Transportation Business Group to create safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide design oversight for roadway, lighting, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, and traffic management system plans.
• Develop intersection designs, capacity studies, and signal warrant analyses.
• Design and integrate Intelligent Traffic Sub‑systems.
• Oversee traffic control and sequencing plans during construction phases.
• Serve as a technical expert, resolving complex engineering problems.
• Organize and supervise medium to large teams of professionals and technicians.
• Act as project manager on larger assignments when required.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support project success.

Required profile

• Extensive experience on large transportation projects such as interstates, freeways, and highways.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical deliverables.
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
