Job description
Elsevier is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer II to design, build, and maintain AWS‑based infrastructure that powers global information platforms, mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with development, security, and operations teams.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, highly available infrastructure on AWS using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, and IAM.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation to enable repeatable, auditable deployments.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for automated testing, deployment, and rollback.
- Own monitoring, logging, and alerting using CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus/Grafana.
- Lead root‑cause analysis for production incidents and drive long‑term remediation.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of systems or infrastructure engineering experience with strong hands‑on AWS expertise.
- Proficiency in Terraform or CloudFormation and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS).
- Solid understanding of networking, security best practices, and cost‑optimization in cloud environments.
