Senior Platform Firmware Engineer

About the role

Cowboy Space Corp. is building the infrastructure that powers the orbital economy. As a Senior Platform Firmware Engineer you will work at the intersection of hardware and software, delivering reliable firmware, board bring‑up, and autonomous recovery for satellite compute platforms from first power‑on through orbital deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain platform firmware and board management infrastructure for advanced compute systems.
• Own system bring‑up, low‑level boot sequencing, and custom hardware initialization.
• Design FPGA/CPLD logic for power sequencing, reset orchestration, watchdogs, and telemetry.
• Implement and customize BMC firmware using OpenBMC, and expose management interfaces such as Redfish or IPMI.
• Debug complex hardware/firmware interactions across CPUs, GPUs, PCIe fabrics, and networking devices.
• Collaborate with hardware, validation, thermal, and systems teams during bring‑up and deployment.
• Develop fault‑recovery and autonomous reboot capabilities for remote orbital systems.
• Support secure boot, firmware updates, and system attestation architectures.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience in embedded systems, platform firmware, BMC development, or hardware bring‑up engineering.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Deep understanding of platform initialization and boot architectures.
• Experience debugging hardware/software interactions at board and system level.
• Familiarity with FPGA or CPLD development workflows (Xilinx or Altera).
