Senior Payroll Manager

About the role

We are seeking a senior‑level payroll professional to lead and scale our payroll operations for a fast‑growing construction contractor. The role is based onsite in Long Island City and partners closely with HR, Finance and Legal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end payroll processing, including data entry, validation, and distribution of checks or direct deposits.
• Lead, mentor and develop a payroll team of approximately four members.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll regulations, including tax filings and union remittance.
• Conduct regular audits, generate payroll reports and drive continuous process improvements.
• Collaborate with HR on benefits administration and with Finance on tax submissions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or related field (preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Construction industry background and experience with union payroll processing.
• Proven ability to implement payroll systems and lead a high‑performing team.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, complex formulas).
• Preparation of 940/941 and W‑2 forms.
• Certified Payroll Reporting (CPP) knowledge.
• Experience with CMiC construction software.
• Experience with Sage Timberline payroll system.
